Stencil Nation Artists

Love the image on the Stencil Nation Book and Flier?

Here it is being created!

Stencil by Dogcat Provision.

From photograph to film poster to street art stencil to photograph to book cover.

The face is Clare Shenstone, now a portrait painter and artist.

The Art Window at Pages Bookstore will have a display of stencils by Janet Bike Girl to celebrate the release of the book "Stencil Nation", by Russell Howze.

The book cover features this photograph of a stencil by dogcatprovision, an artist from Montreal. It is based on a poster for Andy Warhol's film "Chelsea Girls". The original photograph was taken in 1966 by Donald Silverstein when Clare was 16. The poster was designed by Alan Aldridge.

The book will be available for purchase at the bookstore, there will also be a table featuring other books on street art.

The display, is part of Bike Month Toronto. The event takes place June 1 to June 20, 2008.

256 Queen Street West

The Chelsea Girls poster is featured in the book "Exploitation Poster Art", published by Aurum Press.
